No-one could envisage that long after the early news reports of a strange new virus in a distant Wuhan, that we would, some six months later, still be reeling from its devasting impact.
Back in March, the early uncertainty forced us to consider hosting a hybrid event. We were cautiously excited, actually. Despite the challenge, the pivot to a hybrid event would have enabled us to combine the very best of both virtual and physical forums, and showcase the very best Reykjavik has to offer to those that could still travel!
But, as you know, the pandemic has upended so much; our work, our day to day lives, even how we communicate with loved ones. The crisis has snowballed into something far more significant and more challenging than anyone could anticipate, let along thoroughly prepare for.
With this in mind, it should come as no surprise then that, with all that is uncertain, we will be dropping the physical meeting for this year. Instead, CHARGE 2020 will be a 100% virtual experience.
Life forces us to make tricky choices, but what should not be tricky is prioritizing health and family before work. It is for that reason that I hope you understand our decision.
While it is disappointing that I will not be able to greet you in person at CHARGE 2020, I’m still excited to share our virtual experience with you. The revised virtual program features so much awesome content that I’m sure you will gain just as much, if not more than you would have had you been with us in person.
We’re excited to have put together three incredible tracks for you. One that tackles how we, as energy companies, can leverage brands to finally deliver the sustainable energy transition. The second track challenges us to be better at engaging our clients, customers and stakeholders, while the third showcases the incredible new technologies we can use to supercharge our brands.
There really is something for everyone!

I’m really excited about what CHARGE VIRTUAL 2020 has to offer. All in all, the ongoing pandemic has highlighted just how fragile our social, economic and public health systems are. It is for this reason, if not any others that we must take the chance now to supercharge our transition to a more sustainable, fair and reliable energy system. I’m sure you agree.
The time is NOW. There can be no delay, and that means CHARGE 2020 could not be happening at a better time.
